NIRMM Salutes Literary and Creative Leaders
National Inspirational Role Models Month (NIRMM) is an annual November celebration originated in 2005 by Detroit native and House of Communications Owner/Chief Communications Specialist Darlene House. This year’s celebration features two events with display, giveaways and refreshments. The second annual Literary Leaders Awards Presentation will take place on Saturday, November 10 at 7 p.m. at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History (315 E. Warren Avenue, Detroit, MI., 313.494.5800). An entertaining and enlightening presentation is scheduled for Monday, November 19 at 7:30 p.m. at Northbrook Presbyterian Church (22055 W. 14 Mile Rd., Beverly Hills, MI., 248.642.0200). This year’s plans also include the debut of NIRMM Recommended Reading List collaboration with Metropolitan Detroit/Southeastern Michigan book clubs. For additional NIRMM information, visit nirmm.com or call 313.778.1550.
The purpose of NIRMM is to acknowledge impact contemporary and historic role models have on our lives. Individuals chosen for recognition may include celebrities, historic figures, relatives, friends, colleagues and associates. Celebrate with creative projects and activities featuring historic role models and by spending time with contemporary role models.
Literary Leaders Awards will be presented during the Motown Writers Network Essence of Motown Literary Weekend Literary Awards Dinner. The 2007 winners are Prolific Pioneer Award – Denise Stinson of Walk Worthy Press, Significant Scribe Supporter Award – WSU Journalism Institute for Media Diversity and Creative Writing Artistic Commemorator Award – Children’s Museum 2nd Saturdays on 2nd Series. Visit www.essenceofmotown.com to register for the awards dinner or literary weekend spotlighting local authors/poets plus their supporters.
House launched Literary Leaders Awards in 2006. Powerful Prolific Pioneer Award was presented in honor of historic or contemporary role model/company or organization actively involved with practicing/advocating professional writing-related careers and the process of mentoring others. Significant Scribe Supporter Award was presented to a contemporary role model/company or organization actively involved with practicing/advocating professional writing-related careers and the process of mentoring others. Creative Writing Artistic Commemorator Award was designated for nominee who showed an appreciation for the field of writing through single work of art or multi-part project.
During the Northbrook Presbyterian Church presentation, House will discuss her motivation for originating NIRMM and share case studies reflecting creative ways it is being celebrated throughout the country plus preview some future plans. Some local inspirational role models are invited guests.
